Tamang Heritage Trek


The Tamang Heritage Trek begins from Syabrubesi (1460m) and goes through Gatlang, Chilime, Thuman, Timure and Briddim Tamang village. The individuals of this district are mostly the Tibetans who are originated from Kerung of Tibet who migrated and settled in Nepal. In earlier days, the citizenship of Nepal was not offered to genuine Tibetans, so they changed their ethnicity to tamang and make themselves adjusted to Nepali society. The social and customs of these individuals are like the Tibetan over the border. Gatlang is a conventional Tamang town which is settled on a high slope among terraced fields of Tamang settlement. One can likewise visit a Tamang religious community and the lovely Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang. From the perspective at Bahundanda close to these settlements called Parwati Kunda one can witness all encompassing perspective of Lantang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal, Sanjen Himal extents. Showering in the hot mending waters of the common spring at Tatopani is a thrilling background.

Nagathali (3165m) is a perspective point in Thuman VDC which is encompassed by excellent perspectives of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal and Sanjen Himal extents. Nagthali used to be a famous reflection community for the travelers and individuals of Nepal. Itinerary Details
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

Upon our arrival in the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, we will be greeted by a representative from Himalayan Glacier who will drop us off at our hotel. After checking in, we take a rest or visit Himalayan Glacier’s office. In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner hosted by Himalayan Glacier. For dinner, you will be served excellent authentic Nepalese cuisine which will introduce you to the Nepalese food culture.

Day 2: Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

Today after breakfast we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath) which is one of the largest stupas in the world. At noon, there will be a pre-trip discussion where we can meet our trek leader and other team members. Himalayan Glacier briefs us regarding our trek as well as provides us an opportunity to ask any questions we may have regarding our upcoming adventure. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550m/5,100ft): 8-9 hours

We leave Kathmandu in the morning for Syabrubesi, a village which is also a starting point for treks into the Langtang valley. Our journey will be on a winding road through frequent switchbacks. On a clear day we get to enjoy outstanding views of Manaslu, Annapurna and Ganesh Himal. We continue until we descend to the small village of Syabrubesi, the starting point of our trek. Overnight in Syabrubesi.

Day 4:  Trek begins: Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2,200m/7,217ft.): 5 hours

Our trek starts from today. From Syabrubesi, we hike across the Goljung Village enjoying views of the Ganesh Himal, Shishapangma, Langtang Lirung and others. Gatlang is a small village on the hillside with traditional stone houses. Overnight at Gatlang.

Day 5: Gatlang to Tatopani (2607m/8550 ft): 6-7 hours

We begin today’s trek with a descent to Thangbuche and soak-in magnificent views of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang Ranges along the way. Next, pass by the Chilime Hydropower dam and ascend until Tatopani. The name Tatopani literally means ‘hot water’ in Nepali owing to the natural hot springs there. We take a dip into the natural hot water and relax our tired muscles.

Day 6: Tatopani to Thuman (2,400m/7,874 ft) via Brimdang and Nagthali: 6 hours

Today we trek from Tatopani to Thuman via Brimdang and Nagthali. Passing through the dense alpine forest, we reach the small Tamang settlement of Brimdang. From here, it’s a few hours walk uphill until Nagthali hill. Here, we enjoy the mesmerizing views of Langtang, Sanjen, Kerung and Ganesh Himal. Next, trek downhill to the Tamang village of Thuman and spend the night.
